The African Seed and Biotechnology Partnership Platform (ASBPP) acts as a policy think tank to stimulate policy discussions and coherence for seed systems development in Africa, including improving coordination in decisionmaking and policy formulation, supporting evidence-based advocacy and enhancing knowledge sharing in seed systems development in Africa.

The General Assembly of the ASBPP is an open forum that biennially brings together representatives of all relevant sector stakeholder groups to consult and build consensus on priority issues and actions on seed and biotechnology related matters. For the Second General Assembly, the theme was Advancing the Humanitarian Development and Peacebuilding Nexus for Africa’s Seed Sector.

ISSD Africa fully supports the ambitions of the ASBPP and has in the past collaborated in the development of three separate Communiqué on Integrated Seed Sector Development in Africa. On that basis, – and given the close alignment between the GA’s theme and the ambitions of the new phase of ISSD Africa – the CoP was invited to support and participate in the Second General Assembly of the ASBPP in African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, 22-23 April 2024.

The below Concept Note outlines the rationale which underpinned the various presentations and discussions across the two-day event.

Due to the high relevance and importance of the GA for the CoP, ISSD Africa invited some 100 programme partners and CoP members to attend the various discussion sessions during the two days. ISSD Africa organised and facilitated multiple rounds of interactive sessions, giving space not just for the elaboration and validation of our new Action Learning Projects, but also to give space and momentum for CoP partners to share their latest insights and innovations.

The below programme document outlines the various sessions’ objectives, participating organisations and cases.
